Islamic faith and culture

Muslims believe in submitting to the Almighty God as the only way that can bring peace in one’s life. In Islam, everything people do is an act of worship if it is done according to Allah’s guidance (Lunde, 2002). Islamic religion draws their culture from their holy book known as the Quran. This book defines all the rules Muslims have to adhere to and guides them on their lifestyles, eating habits, dressing and marriage. Islamic religion allows Muslims to consume everything except for the forbidden food such as pork and alcohol.

In addition, it is also prohibited to eat meat slaughtered by non-Muslims (King, 2011). Islamic dressing is drawn from both Quran and the traditions of Prophet Muhammad. Women must cover their breast and other parts of the body other than face and hands. Men are only required to cover parts of the body between the navel and knees. The clothing must be loose enough not to show body outline.

The clothing material must also be thick enough to prevent seeing through clothing. More importantly, Muslims should avoid flashy dressing and give preference to decency (Rosemary Skinner Keller, 2006). Marriage is considered both social and legal; hence, Muslims take it very seriously. In Islamic religion views, marriage is a process that begins with the search off an appropriate partner, which may involve family members and friends. Marriage also includes signing contract agreement and wedding ceremony. Islam allows polygamy (Namou, 2010).

The information about Islamic culture should make anyone realize that Muslims have much stronger faith than followers of other religions. This is because of its monotheistic nature. Its well specified rules without contradictions are also a plus. The idea behind considering pork a dirty animal and its prohibition is entrenched in principles on which the religion is founded. It is also in line with the religion not to consume meat slaughtered by non-Muslims.

This should not be viewed as discrimination.
